W.J. (Bill) Bergman, M.Eng, P.Eng.
Bill is an engineering specialist in the performance and analysis of power system equipment. His expertise includes the application, specification, testing, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of major electrical and mechanical equipment. He has developed and implemented programs to improve maintenance, reliability and utilization of the power system and it’s equipment and facilities. He has performed failure analysis on electric equipment and systems.
View Extended CVKey Accomplishments
- Key participant in due diligence evaluating, acquiring and rehabilitating a system of power plants and transmission lines in Western Australia to what is currently the owner’s most profitable venture.
- In a mid-sized electrical utility, started and developed a group in the application, specification, installation, commissioning, and O&M of substation equipment.
- Active participant in IEEE, IEC, CIGRE and CSA standards developing activities in the areas of switchgear/circuit breakers, transformers, capacitors, and insulation coordination.
- Introduced the concept and mentored a team that was one of the first to fully implement RCM review and practices in both transmission and distribution, resulting in significant cost reductions and improvements in asset performance.
Career Highlights
- Analysis of numerous power equipment based failures in substations (4.16 to 500 kV), power plants (coal fired thermal, hydro, combustion turbine plants) and distribution systems.
- At various times, led and developed individuals and groups in the areas of:
- Application, specification, testing, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of major electrical and mechanical equipment in generating, substations and transmission systems;
- Strategic development and implementation of programs to improve reliability and utilization of the power system and it’s equipment and facilities;
- Development of maintenance programs and their implementation
